How can we improve the Narrative Experience?

Welcome to the Narrative Suggestion Board!

If you are a Narrative Clip user, I hope you’ve enjoyed using our Clip so far!

With effect from 13 March 2016, We will be temporarily suspending this suggestion board. We are currently in the process of shipping all our pre-orders rapidly and we would like to focus our efforts on providing better personal support to our users over email.

If you are having issues with your Clip, the most effective manner would be to check our Narrative Care Knowledge Base at http://care.getnarrative.com, which is full of information. If you are still unable to find a solution, then please feel free to reach out to us via the care website.

Thank you for your understanding!

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. make local storage feature equivalent to cloud storage

I won't buy one of these because the option to store files locally on one's computer is crippled compared to the cloud version. There are zero technical reasons why the local storage option should not have the same features as cloud storage (organize into moments, GPS location). I should be able to have the complete feature set without having to put all the images from my life on your servers.

    • Open source your clustering software to alleviate privacy concerns

      Dear Memoto,

I'm a huge fan of the project, I can't wait to get mine in the mail. The privacy implications are a big concern for me though. I am generally a very public person, I have a Facebook profile, I freely share vacation pictures, etc. This is because I know exactly what I'm sharing, and I know not to make public anything I don't want. I'm a happy Gmail user because if I felt an email were too sensitive, I simply would not send it on gmail.

Things are different with Memoto. The information provided is much richer, and…

        Hi guys!

Open clustering and open the api are two different things. The most recent update was meant for other suggestions here on the board.

Hence, this suggestion is still open for votes since it has not been implemented.

Thanks for your understanding, and have a great day,

        The Narrative Team

        • Use the accelerometer to determine best moment to take a non-blurry photo

Firmware change: Use the accelerometer to determine best moment to take a non-blurry photo. When the internal timer says it's time to take a picture, check the accelerometer and wait up to 10% of the timer period to see if there isn't a low-motion (less blur) or better angle available. If not, take the picture anyway. (Inspired by Jason Hsu)

          • Add a map mode to the timeline viewer

The clip captures GPS data with every picture, but aside from the name of the city, that data is not exposed in the app at all. It would be neat to have a map-based view of the timeline so you could retrace your steps over the course of the day. That'd be especially useful while traveling since you might not know exactly where you went while you explored a new location.

            • Allow download of GPS track log

After uploading photos to the service, I would like to be able to download the GPS data for my day's adventure for viewing on Google Earth or other GPS mapping apps. Right now my only option is to select all the day's photos, download them all, and extract the GPS data from each one, using that to construct a track log file. This is resource-intensive for Narrative's servers and time-consuming for me.

              • figure out how to turn the camera off other than putting it on its side. I get 100s of black pix when it's in my backpack or pocket.

to get 100s of black pix that are then slow to upload to your site and clog up my HD seems silly. Gotta find a way to turn the doggone thing off other then putting it flat. How often can you do that during the day if you have it with you?

                • An ios/android app to directly upload photos from clip by connecting clip to ios/android device.

Would be great to make the clip truly mobile, no need to to lug around a PC/mac while traveling. Main objective here is to get your photos out of the clip into the service and charge device, so we can take more photos.

                  • Phone as viewfinder.

Allow phones to also serve as viewfinder. I mean, users are allowed to see in their phones what the narrative clip is seeing in real time. I understand the clip is intended to capture random moments, but I guess the feature would be a big plus.

                    • please support EXIF meta data in JPEG format

Picture date&time, GPS position, expose time, shutter speed are can save EXIF metadata in JPEG file.

Currently, Narrative clip doesn't support EXIF meta data in jpeg file..

Please support Metadata in narrative clip.

I find some project EXIF data for narrative clip jpeg file.

                      https://github.com/chuckkahn/Narrative-Clip-Metadata

but It is very difficult to use for me.

                      please support this feature!!

                        • Add a "Burst Mode"

Ideally, you could configure the double-tap so that instead of taking a single picture immediately, it toggles "burst mode", which takes consecutive pictures as fast as the hardware can support (acknowledging that heavy use of this would reduce the battery life considerably and fill storage much faster).

                          • implement support for IFTTT.com

or possibly have them do that, if thats the way it works. I use IFTTT a lot to keep a diary where foursquare, instagram, facebook and a lot of other services get moved to Evernote.

Moving all photos wouldn't be very efficient, but possibly moving a daily dose of event thumbnails linked to your service..

                            • Separate the camera from the web service.

Allow the camera to just be used as a time interval camera. Allow us to save these jpegs with proper capture date and timestamps without needing to authenticate with your server. Do you honestly think Canon/Nikon would be as successful if you had to go online to ask their permission to download your own photos? (FWIW, cruise ship internet is about a dollar a minute, are you refunding your customers for the time needed to authenticate to get our own photos out of the cameras we own?)

The web service is interesting for most people, but totally unsuitable for power…

I should be able to choose a section and delete.

                                    • Add Bluetooth Integration for transferring photos from Narrative directly to my iPhone

I would like to be able to see the photos on my phone without needing to plug the Narrative into a USB charger. If "incomplete" files are a concern due to low battery life, perhaps it can be set to upload only if there is a certain percentage of charge available.

                                      • SHARE photos from STARRED picture roll, without having to re-enter Moment album

This is essential. Starring photos has almost no function if you can't then share them easily, without leaving the starred photo album.

                                        • Add an option to disable automatic starring of photos

Narrative is automatically starring pictures (I believe it's for 'double-tapped' photos), and unfortunately it is often completely incorrectly detecting (or triggering?) double-taps and starring all kinds of photos that I deem unimportant. So at the end of every day I have to go through the list of starred photos again and, one by one, un-star the photos that Narrative added, because I'd like to see only my favorite photos in the starred photos folder. So please, add a simple setting to disable any automatic starring!
